35 SUMMERS
LINE-UP
Two's company
35 Summers was originally conceived as a two-piece - Duncan Lomax and David Pichilingi. Together, they had written many of the songs for their previous band Wake Up Afrika, and it was a writing partnership that worked. The problem was, Wake Up Afrika just didn't seem to be able to attract the attention of the record companies. Duncan initially left the band and started to work on some new material, but was soon joined by Dave, and 35 Summers was born. The initial demos of the first 8 songs were recorded as just a two-piece, with Duncan programming a simple drum machine and playing all other instruments, before both David and Duncan put vocal tracks over the top. It soon became obvious though that if they wanted to play live, a band would be needed...
Line up 2
At this stage, it was still thought that the band would be a flexible line-up - so Dave and Duncan looked to other local bands for the musicians to complete a live band.
First on board - Robbie Fay - bass player with Day Without Rain
Dave Upton - guitarist with Runcorn band The Nice Party
Andrew Starkey - drummer with Day Without Rain
Jamie Southern - keyboards. Jamie was a friend of Robbie's, brought in to play the keyboard parts that Duncan had recorded on the demos.
Line up 3
Andrew Starkey was replaced by Andrew Hignett, former drummer in Wake Up Afrika
Dave Upton returns to The Nice Party who themselves are starting to get attention, and is replaced by Ian 'Gredge' Greenwood - previously with Day Without Rain
